Renault Megane RS 280 Cup in Malaysia!

Tan Chong Euro Cars (TCEC) has just pulled the wraps off the long awaited Golf R killer. The latest Renault Sport Megane RS 280 Cup is ready to take on the competition as the next hot-hatch king. Two variants are on offer, the six-speed manual and the efficient dual-clutch (EDC) gearbox. If you opt for the model with the EDC gearbox, there will be additional features such as Renault's launch control system and Multi-Change Down which is essentially an advance gear downshift system, best used during hard cornering.

Now, for the powertrain. Most rivals in the class come with high powered 2.0 turbocharged engines, but in the Renault’s case, it comes only with a 1.8 turbocharged engine. Total output is rated at 280PS and a whopping 390Nm of torque. Quite a healthy number coming from a downsized lump. In order to experience the full potential of the power without the risk of injury and accidents, Renault has also added their 4CONTROL system in. Basically, it is a four-wheel steering system whereby the back wheels will turn eight degrees in the opposite direction of the front wheels to aid maneuverability. On the flip side, the back wheels will turn one degree in the same direction of the other end to aid high speed cornering. In a nutshell, it helps you turn easily when parking and also saves you from the risk of understeering and losing control when going up Genting Highlands.

What about the pricing you might say? Well TCEC has announced that the price will startå from RM279,888 up to RM299,888. If you think it’s a huge sum, just bear in mind that the Golf R is priced a lot higher than the French rival. Also, if any of you are planning to purchase one with either Pearl White, Tonic Orange and Liquid Yellow, there will be an additional charge of RM1,000 for the former and RM8,000 for the other two colours.

Every purchase of the Megane RS 280 Cup is inclusive of a three year warranty or 100,000km (whichever comes first) and is supported by all 18 Renault approved service centers within Peninsular Malaysia. Currently, the new hot hatch is on preview at Mid Valley Megamall from April 24 to April 28. Test drives will be held from August onwards and the first 1,000 customers to purchase the Megane RS 280 Cup will get a pair of tickets to France with all expenses paid. Also, a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the wonders of the Dieppe based Renault Sport facility will be thrown in the package.
